What's Your Favourite
Sherlock Holmes Movie?

Well, to be honest, that's rather a difficult question to answer, because there are so many Sherlock Holmes movies available.

I for one cannot give you just one answer.

I do have some favourites though, as I am sure you have too.

But let's follow in Sherlock Holmes's footsteps and start with just the facts:

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle may "only" have written 56 short stories and four full-length novels about the world's most famous detective.

Yet today there are hundreds of different Sherlock Holmes films and TV series episodes. Each one of them brings the sleuth and his friend Doctor Watson to life in a different way.

They are long, short, in colour or black and white.

There are live action films or TV series and animated cartoons.

Many movie adaptations are faithful to the original stories. Others are more or less imaginative re-inventions.

Some of the greatest acting talents have played Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson in the past. At present a handful of younger actors offer new interpretations of the beloved characters. Thereby they ensure that Holmes and Watson acquire new fans and followers even in this day and age.

Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson share a long history on the big and the small screen.

And I am sure the future will add many more adventures.

But let's get back to the elementary purpose of this guide:

No matter if you prefer the classic black and white films with Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce or the latest action flick with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, you'll find them all on this website and much more.

Perhaps you've always wanted to watch a certain Sherlock Holmes movie but weren't sure if it is any good?

Are you looking for information about a certain actor or actress who have starred in one or more movie adaptations?

Don't worry. You'll find all the facts you need right here on these pages.

Just choose a section on the left-hand side of any page and discover more about the world’s most beloved detective and his faithful companion.

So, what are you waiting for? Grab your magnifying glass and Inverness cloak. Even the deerstalker if you really must.

Are You Ready?

Then follow me through the varied and sometimes quite colourful world of the Sherlock Holmes movies and TV series.

The game's afoot!

or I should rather say:

The movie is on! :o)
